Accommodation is a crucial aspect when it comes to the Northern Alps. Where can I sleep? Since the majority of the hotel options are very expensive.
Fortunately for you, I have different options that will answer to the most adventurous to the ones that just want to relax in a good bed.
1º Hotel
First of all, we are going to talk about hotels. There is a crazy amount of options, since five star to three stars. Withe all the luxuries possible, indoors pool, outdoor tub and SPA. With continental breakfast and infinite pools. If you like to enjoy your vacations in a comfortable style, this is the best option. But be prepared because the hotels in the area are expensive. Normally the hotels are located in the villages, so If you are looking for an option in the middle of the mountain this is not for you.
2º Locals Houses
The Locals Houses are a very good option for the ones that really want to experience the essence of the Alps, and comes with the benefit of being helping a local family. It´s like a guesthouse and, if you want, you can include breakfast. It´s more affordable than a hotel, and it´s an opportunity to enjoy the locals in their most natural form.
3º Rifugio
Rifugios (or ‘rifugi’ in Italian) are mountain huts or lodges that offer food, drinks, toilets, and sometimes overnight accommodation to hikers. They’re a cherished tradition in the Alps, providing welcome rest stops and local cuisine during your adventure I would say you can compare it with hostels, you have different rooms since 2 bedrooms to 16 bed room.
Anging from simple and rugged to more comfortable amenities, they all offer suitable and welcome shelter to walkers, mountaineers, skiers and anyone desiring to get up close and personal with the beautiful terrain of the Dolomite Mountains.
But the most amazing feature that they all share is the FOOD - which can only be described as delicious and plentiful. While travelers who choose to stay at a rifugio may find it helpful that meals are also available, allowing them to carry less for their journeys.

4º Bivacco
I saved the most adventurous option for last. For me, this is the most incredible option, but it isn't for everyone for sure. I start with the most catchy point- IT´S FREE.
If you are looking for a free accommodation with the most amazing views that I promise you want to see in any other place, this is the place for you. But be caution, the way to get there is not easy.
So Bivaccos are shelters in the mountains for the hikers, but they are located in very high places and aren´t easy to reach. The only way to visit one is by .... yes you got it--- by hiking. Obviously, the higher and more remote the more amazing the views will be. For travelers seeking a more “simple” experience, bivaccos offer a simple large room that is shared by multiple guests, more or less beds depending the size of the bivacco.
OK, I said it wasn´t for everyone, but I promised you, if you love to be in connection with nature this is a one in lifetime experience, you won´t regret it.
5º Wild Camping
I still have one more option in my sleeve. If you prefer your freedom and want to choose where to sleep with no schedules or obligations - you can camp. YES Wild Camping is allowed by law in the Dolomites, so If you want a free accommodation whatever you want whenever you want, this is the option for you. And you will still have the best views and the most unforgettable ones.
If you aren´t already packing for visiting the dolomites this Summer, I don´t wanna be friends. Just kidding, I hope I could help you make your trip easier. If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to comment.
